About Us
It was in 1998 that I met this charming lady who gave me a bar of soap, telling me it had been handmade by a friend of hers. I accepted the gift with pleasure. I used it the next day and it was love at first sight. That's when I started researching the manufacturing process, the ingredients, and so on. And that was it!
We were living in St-Hyacinthe at the time and the internet was not as developed as it is today, so I found myself buying ingredients from various suppliers of agricultural producers who were the only ones distributing them.
I managed to get my hands on a few recipes and I succeeded in making my first soap. It was, how can I put it? Dry, very hard, and, above all, very "cleaning." And clean it certainly did! But it was my first soap, and I was proud of it. That's how Savonnerie Blanchou was born.
Over the years, we have refined our recipes, and for twenty-eight years we have been manufacturing body care products using plant-based oils and butters. The soaps, creams, and other products we offer are the result of the research and experimentation we have conducted over these years.
Our products are biodegradable, designed with respect for the environment, and offered at fair prices. This is our way of contributing to the preservation and improvement of the human and planetary environment.
The ingredients
We pay particular attention to the choice and origin of our ingredients and, over the years, we have developed relationships of trust with our suppliers. The raw materials we use come, as far as possible, from organic and sustainable agriculture and fair trade.
We often add other quality ingredients to our recipes - clays, plants, essential oils - which we use to give our products specific properties and extend their scope of action.
A good way to ensure that the products are suitable for you is to consult the list of ingredients that appears on the label.
Our soaps
Our soaps are handmade using the cold process method and are distinguished first and foremost by their main ingredient: organic olive oil, sourced locally. Its beneficial properties for the skin have been recognized for centuries, and it forms the basis of recipes that are several centuries old, such as Aleppo soap and Marseille soap. To enhance its effects and longevity, we add oils and butters to our recipes, whose qualities have also long been recognized.
In addition to the premium ingredients we use, our soaps contain glycerin, which is naturally released during the saponification process (the transformation of the lye and oils into soap). Glycerin plays an important role in skin health: it moisturizes by attracting and retaining moisture from the surrounding environment.
Our experiments and research have also led us to develop recipes so that some of the oils actually float inside the soap and help nourish your skin when you use it. This is the "superfatting" of the soap.
And there you have it!
